EEG Biofeedback (Neurofeedback)

EEG Biofeedback, sometimes known as neurofeedback, is a new treatment modality that has been shown to be effective in treating

  • Attention Deficit Disorder
  • stroke
  • mild head injury
  • other neurological and immunological conditions.

Patients learn, over several sessions, how to train their brain waves by seeing their own EEG on a computer screen. The patient learns to modify brain waves in ways that are known to be helpful for that particular person's electrophysiology.

One advantage of neurofeedback for ADD or neurofeedback for ADHD is that medication can be reduced or eliminated in some cases. A more complete description of the treatment can be found in this PDF document (requires Adobe Acrobat Reader).

In order for neurofeedback to have a good chance of working, the patient should plan on coming at least twice per week for a minimum of 15 weeks. The fee for this is $175 per session. Sessions are usually Wednesday and Friday, or Monday and Wednesday. It is difficult to get insurance to pay for these sessions, therefore assignment of insurance is not accepted. We can give you a receipt to get reimbursement for this expense. Additionally, this treatment is tax deductible, as noted on the Home Page.

There are additional applications of neurofeedback. One is reducing the craving of substances such as alcohol and drugs. In fact, research has shown that neurofeedback has over an 85 percent success rate in treating alcohol abuse. Another application is helping PMS symptoms. And still another application is Peak Performance training, or training a person to have the optimal attention and focus possible for that person.
